Chapter 19

Seline took hold of Christian’s arm and urged him to come with her out of the room. “Let’s give them a little privacy. Besides, I think we should check in with Yolanda and Danny. I haven’t noticed where they went, but I have my suspicions.”

Christian raised his eyebrows and the corners of his lips began to curl. “You know that you didn’t need to play dirty. Danny was going to ask her out soon.”

“Well,” Seline said, “I wasn’t convinced. He was horribly insecure and Yolanda was getting worried that he didn’t find her attractive enough to make a move. So, I decided to help her show him what he would be missing if he didn’t step up soon.” She was giving him one of her wicked grins that told him that she knew exactly how underhanded she had been…and he loved it.

“You did an amazing job. I think he stopped breathing when he first saw her.”

“Oh, I know; don’t forget that I could hear his mind stuttering trying to process what his eyes were showing him. Granted, it quickly became just short of a porn scene after that, so I dipped out.” She was shaking her head when she caught the sound of water running upstairs.

“Is someone in my room? Oh, never mind, I don’t want to know. If it was someone trespassing I highly doubt they’d stop for a shower. Besides, I think one of the images that I caught from him did involve a shower.” Seline was turning to head back to the kitchen when she caught sight of a black and white kitten near the back door. “Oh, Christian, look! Poor baby must be hungry. Can we bring it in and give it some milk, maybe a little tuna?”

“With you looking at me like that, how can I say no.” He slipped past her and opened the door. Seline knelt down and called for the kitten to come to her. Amazingly it cautiously slinked past Christian and then scurried right into her arms. Figuring the cat must have sensed Christian as a predator, he just shrugged it off and followed them into the kitchen.

“Look how sweet you are! Where’s your mama?” As she cooed at the little creature, Christian remained watchful. He was well aware of the fact that this cat could have many illnesses from being a stray and potentially not having any of the necessary vaccinations. But he was also concerned with the fact that the shape shifter that had broken into the house before came in the shape of a cat. If the same shifter could change form into something as innocent looking as a kitten, then it could indeed be sitting in his kitchen right at this very moment.

Christian decided to get a closer look at the little thing and crossed the kitchen to stand next to Seline where she had perched on a barstool. The kitten immediately began backing across her lap in retreat.

“He’s afraid of you. Huh, I wonder why,” Seline said as she absently scratched his head.
